During the 19th century, America was going through an important transition. The nation was dealing with the aftermath of the civil war and the following reconstruction of the South. The Reconstruction period was the precursor to the period deemed the â€Å"Gilded Age†. The nation saw economic growth and the creation of the mass market. The rise of industrialization and transition to urban living were some of the defining moments of this period. However, the most defining idea of the Gilded Age is Reform: Social, Political, and economic. The Gilded Age was plagued with the problems that, the reconstruction period failed to solve. Prior, to the Gilded Age or the Age of Reform, violence towards African Americans, was widely committed and accepted. Since the violence was being committed against then slaves, the violence was legal. Ironically, whites were less violent to slaves as they were valuable. Many African Americans, were growing weary of this unjust treatment, but only a few dared to speak out publically. Ida B. Wells, was one of the most prominent social reformers. She was a dual reformers, fighting for both, racial and gender equality. Wells, spoke out against the brutal practice of lynching and mob justice and the lack of response. Lynch mobs had no fear of reprisal, as the authorities did nothing to prevent or pursue them. Biography of Tullus Hostilius

Tullus Hostilius was the 3rd of the  7 kings of Rome, following Romulus and  Numa Pompilius. He  ruled Rome from about 673-642 B.C. Tullus, like the other kings of Rome, lived during the legendary period whose records were destroyed in the fourth century B.C. Most of the stories we have about Tullus Hostilius come from Livius Patavinus  (Livy), a Roman historian  who lived in the first century B.C. Hostus Hostilius and the Sabines During the reign of Romulus, the Sabines and Romans were approaching each other in battle when a single Roman rushed ahead and engaged with a Sabine warrior who had similar ideas. The brash Roman was Hostus Hostilius, grandfather of Tullus Hostilius. Though he did not defeat the Sabine, Hostus Hostilius was held up as a model of bravery. The Romans retreated, although Romulus soon changed his mind and turned around and engaged again. Tullus on Expanding Rome Tullus defeated the Albans, razed their city of Alba Longa, and brutally punished their traitorous leader, Mettius Fufetius. He welcomed the Albans into Rome, thereby doubling the population of Rome. Tullus added Alban nobles to the Senate of Rome and built the Curia Hostilia for them, according to Livy. He also used the Alban nobles to increase his cavalry force. Military Campaigns   Tullus, who is described as more militaristic than Romulus, went to war against Alba, Fidenae, and the Veientines. He tried treating the Albans as allies, but when their leader acted treacherously, he conquered and absorbed them. After beating the people of Fidenae, he defeated their allies, the Veientines, in a bloody battle at the Anio River. He also defeated the Sabines at Silva Malitiosa by throwing them into confusion using his Albans-enhanced cavalry. Jupiter Strikes Down Tullus Tullus had not paid much attention to the religious rites. When a plague struck, the people of Rome believed it to be divine punishment. Tullus didnt worry about it until he, too, became ill and  unsuccessfully tried to follow the prescribed rites. It was believed that Jupiter in response to this lack of proper reverence, struck Tullus down with a bolt of lightning. Tullus had reigned for 32 years. Willy Loman has the ups and downs of someone suffering from bipolar disorder: one minute he is happy and proud- the next he is angry and swearing at his sons. Their relationships are obviously not easy ones. Willy always has the deeper devotion, adoration, and near-hero worship for his son Biff; the boy, likewise, has a great love for his father. Each brags on the other incessantly, thereby ignoring the other son- Happy- who constantly tries to brag on himself in order to make up the lack of anyone to do it for him. This turns sour however, after Biff discovers the father he idolizes was not all he had thought him to be. Afterward, familial dynamics are never the same, as Willy continues to hope that Biff will succeed, ignorant- perhaps†¦show more content†¦It is Biff who matters most to Willy, and their relationship is particularly bizarre, and its damaged state is owed entirely to a transgression. Biff is the apple of his father’s eye. Young, handsome, strong, intel ligent, and full of ambition, Biff is going to take the world by storm, and Willy intends to living vicariously through him. This is not to be however. After Biff’s disastrous attempt to get his father to discuss grades with his math teacher, Biff gives up. Entirely. At one point, he wanted to work and to succeed in order to please his father, but after he discovers Willy cavorting with another woman, Biff does not want to give his father the satisfaction of a flourishing son. Suddenly, Willy is a liar in his eyes, and later in life, this causes Biff to have an almost violent relationship with him. Learning can be defined as an activity of gaining knowledge or skills by reading, writing, experiencing or by getting influenced. There are many theories of learning which shows how the process of learning takes place. These theories include the theory of Behaviourism, Cognitive psychology, Social learning theory, experiential learning and 21st century learning (Ernest, 2010). Behaviourism learning skills shows that here the learning takes place through observation or measuring the behaviour. It is also known as Biological basis for learning and the focus is made on the observable behaviours. The rewards and punishments are given for the behaviour and it is a highly structured type of learning. The theory is criticized as it does not account the behaviour which takes place in the mind. The theory of Cognitivism is another theory in which learning is considered as the process of the connected symbols. It is beneficial in the case of lectures and learning by reading. According to Mikkelsen Jarche (2015), Leaders must have the quality in which they can scan the signals of change. They should have the ability where they can connect the dots between people and different ideas. For all these capabilities, the leader should have learning capabilities. The leaders cannot follow the static plans but they have to face complexities in the business which needs different behaviours in differentsituations. In 21st century, the leaders are required to show the abilities of thinking, learning and doing. The leaders should have the abilities to renew their thought processes in accordance to the needs of the organisations. In this century, the leaders who learn fast are able to grow faster. As per the study conducted by Deloitte named Global Human Capital Trends 2015, most of the respondents i.e. 85% said that learning is very important criteria for being a successful leader. As per Seijts (2013), a study was conducted where 30 leaders were interviewed who are at different stages of their career and are from different industries too. It was found that the leaders have to take chances to lead and to learn. They have to go beyond their comfort zone to handle complex situations. Every leader has to calculate risks and take opportunities to learn all the leaders shared that they are always open to learning because they get to learn many things every day from others which helps them to succeed professionally and personally. Reflectivity and Critical Thinking Being a leader, I believe that empowerment and encouragement is very important. I accept that learning is a continuous process which updates an individual in the 21st century ever-changing environment. For leaders, it is very important to have a vision that they could inspire others by their knowledge and skills. These knowledge and skills have to be updated and good enough which can meet the challenge of the present complex environment. As a leader I experienced that Learning and leadership goes side by side. Learning increases the knowledge and helps in understanding the complexities of every situation. I have gone through the theories of learning from which I learned that Social learning theory is the one which is used by leaders in the organisations. In this, the leaders observe the behaviour and actions of others and take actions accordingly. This theory helps in understanding the actual environment of the social world and helps the leader in learning that how every individual i s different to handle. I also learned that as per the 21st century learning theory, one size does not fit all which means that a leader cannot act in the same manner in every situation. Learning makes it easy for the leaders to accept the change and to deal with it efficiently. Change is never easy to handle and if the leader keeps him involved in learning then it becomes easy for him to accept and handle the change in the organisation. As a leader, I understood that Learning and growing is a continuous process. I have to make some action plans in order to accomplish my future goals. I also realised that continues development in an individual takes place when lifelong learning takes place. It contributes effectively in the community as well as society and allows the leader to work properly with the followers or peers. As a leader I learned that every leader should be engaged in learning to keep the team motivated. To be a successful leader and to direct the teams it is very important to learn from the surroundings. I believe that learning could be made a part of training and development programs in the organisations where the team members could learn on a continuous basis in a work environment. The team members could also grab opportunities while learning leadership skills on the job. It helps the whole team in achieving the common goals of the business. This also helps leaders to assess different situations and also make them learn that how strategies should be implemented for getting the best results. Learning should be taken as routine activity for the team and especially for leaders. It is because leaders are the one who directs the whole team and make them capable to achieve the desires targets and goals for the team and organisation as a whole. They are able to trade with more countries by maintaining a constant high trade pattern, than before. By trading with more countries, they enjoy greater exports as compared to the imports. This prevents them from experiencing a deficit in their balance of trade. In turn, the developing countries gain access to the foreign currency that comes from the trade. This improves the developing country’s economic growth. The countries are also able to improve their terms of tra de. It can do this by raising their export prices permanently. This, in turn, increases the countries national income causing a growth in GDP. FDI enables the provision of capital to the developing countries. The multinational companies enable the transfer of capital in order to support the domestic savings. This leads to an increase in the domestic capital for the developing countries. This, in turn, increases the domestic investment. In addition, FDI increases the growth of the developing countries through promoting the returns in production. This is aided by its externalities and the spill over effects. FDI provides a knowledge channel for the developing countries. It provides knowledge to the countries engaging themselves in FDI. Example, FDI increases the flow of knowledge to the Japanese firms engaging in FDI. It also enables the provision of employment, which in turn raises the living standards of people. A new stock measure of the FDI centered on the employment enables access to a long-term effect of FDI in the states involved. This, in turn, increases growth in the developing countries, which finally increases the GDP. FDI helps in reducing the inflation rate and the government consumption, which in turn raises the GDP in the developing countries. Inflation control is a great macroeconomic stabilization policy. It is important for inflation to be controlled in order for the developing countries’ GDP to increase. On the other and, increasing the government spending reduces economic growth in the developing countries. Therefore, FDI helps in the reduction of inflation and government spending, a great barrier in the developing countries.
